Author Dr. Jan is a K-12 Reading Specialist and tutor. Her students range from pre-K to adults with diverse backgrounds, needs, and learning disabilities. Her students, successfully learning to read words and comprehend the English language, include ESL and ADD students, students with low esteems, failing students, dyslexic and autistic students, students in drug rehab, and students with severe reading fluency and comprehension problems.

For 53 years her success in helping students learn to easily read is attributed to her designed sequence of lessons based on phonetic word families, Dolche and Frye sight words, vocabulary meaning, comprehension activities, and repetition of skills which ensure reading skill mastery.

Dr. Jan was a college reading instructor, Teacher Education instructor, Coordinator and Observer for the State Florida Professional Orientation Program and Teacher Certification, Reading Teacher/Intern Supervisor, and trained in Remediation of Auditory Comprehension Skills.

The author is a USF graduate with a B.A. in Early Childhood/Elementary Education, M.A. in Elementary Education with Reading/Language Arts Emphasis, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with Emphasis in Reading, English, & Higher Education.

Dr. Jan has presented her reading research studies at the Florida Council of Independent Schools, Bay Area Independent Schools Seminars, and at the 2007 Florida Reading Research Conference.

Her professional and honorary affiliations include the International Literacy Association, Kappa Delta Pi Honorary Society in Education, and Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Society. Dr. Jan is also the author of a children’s book, The Golden Banana Peels, an animal story of friendship and protecting our environment.

Really Learn to Read! was created from Dr. Jan’s expertise, sincere devotion, and years of experience with the reading problems and needs of students of all ages.

This outstanding phonics and comprehension program makes reading fun and ensures reading success! Children, teenagers, and adults are empowered with the reading skills and self-confidence they positively need for today and in the future.

These lessons are intentionally student, parent, tutor, and classroom teacher friendly.
